Meet Savannah
Hello, my name is Savannah Ramirez. I live in Kansas City, Missouri and I am a Mexican-American artist, mother, wife, Army veteran and so much more.
I haven’t always considered myself an artist, and maybe still don’t, but after the loss of two of my siblings, in 2021 and 2023, I felt a pull to anything that would help me through my sadness. This is what led me to art and creating Monarca KC.
In 2022, I traveled to Mexico City, Mexico to visit my fathers family. I never had an interest in ceramics or art before, but after seeing the red clay and the Mexican style painting on the pottery, I was hooked. I knew I had to bring this back home somehow.
In 2023 my sister passed away and creating art was, again, the only way through it all. This was when I dug into pottery.
Now, I am on a mission to bring Mexican pottery to Missouri and tell my story. Death and survival has been a huge part of my life, and after finding myself again, I want to create my own Mexican-American style to share with everyone around me.
Meet Kaylee
Art has always been a driving force in my life. Pottery was introduced to me in school and while I perused a degree in management, the fine arts degree perused me. I ended up devoting my time in school to learning about functional art, clay bodies, and kilns. After school I went on to work in different management positions around the country, finally landing back at home in Kansas City, Missouri in 2022. My old passion found me again at Driftwood Ceramics in NKC. It started with a beginners class with my sister and has turned into teaching classes and working with Savannah on this project where I get to make the functional art that I love, but also get to explore the world of our raw materials.
